13. BRUSH KNEE IN A CROSSED STANCE (part 1)

左脚尖右脚跟同時翹起,zuǒ jiǎo jiān yòu jiǎo gēn tóng shí qiào qǐ  Your left toes and right heel lift in unison,

轉向正東,zhuǎn xiàng zhèng dōng your feet turning to point to the east,

略成虚步。luè chéng xū bù almost making an empty stance.

左臂降下成為垂直線,zuǒ bèi jiàng xià chéng wéi chuí zhí xiàn Your left arm lowers to hang straight down,

手掌翹起。shǒu zhǎng qiào qǐ palm [fingers] lifted,

右手亦向東推出,yòu shǒu yì xiàng dōng tuī chū while your right hand pushes to the east,

成陽掌。chéng yáng zhǎng becoming an active [outward] palm,

左足由虚而實,zuǒ zú yóu xū ér shí your left foot going from empty to full

成弓步。chéng gōng bù  making a bow stance.

眼看正東。yǎn kàn zhèng dōng Your eyes are looking directly to the east.

14. BRUSH KNEE IN A CROSSED STANCE (part 2)

腰向後倚,yāo xiàng hòu yǐ  Your waist shifts back,

全身坐於右腿。quán shēn zuò yú yòu tuǐ your weight shifting fully onto your right leg,

左腿由實而成虚步。zuǒ tuǐ yóu shí ér chéng xū bù  your left leg going from being full to making an empty stance.

同時左臂提起,tóng shí zuǒ bèi tí qǐ  At the same time, your left arm lifts,

成立掌。chéng lì zhǎng the hand becoming an upright palm,

右臂縮囘,yòu bèi suō huí  and your right arm shrinks back,

右手亦成立掌,yòu shǒu yì chéng lì zhǎng  the hand also becoming an upright palm

指尖貼於左腕部。zhǐ jiān tiē yú zuǒ wàn bù  fingertips nearing your left wrist.

眼看正東。yǎn kàn zhèng dōng  Your eyes are looking directly to the east.

左手下降成垂直線,zuǒ shǒu xià jiàng chéng chuí zhí xiàn Your left hand lowers to hang straight down

指尖翹起。zhǐ jiān qiào qǐ fingertips lifted,

右手推出。yòu shǒu tuī chū while your right hand pushes out,

身向前俯。shēn xiàng qián fǔ your body inclining forward,

左腿變為弓步。zuǒ tuǐ biàn wéi gōng bù  your left leg changing to a bow stance.

眼看正東。yǎn kàn zhèng dōng Your eyes are looking directly to the east

16. BRUSH KNEE IN A CROSSED STANCE (part 4)

右脚前進一步成弓步。yòu jiǎo qián jìn yī bù chéng gōng bù Your right foot takes a step forward to make a bow stance,

右手降下,yòu shǒu jiàng xià  while your right hand lowers,

繞右膝前落於其側,成垂直線 rào yòu xī qián luò yú qí cè ,chéng chuí zhí xiàn

passing in front of your right knee to hang straight down beside it,

指尖翹起。zhǐ jiān qiào qǐ fingertips lifted,

左手提起,zuǒ shǒu tí qǐ and your left hand lifts

向前推出,xiàng qián tuī chū and pushes out forward,

至終點時成陽掌,zhì zhōng diǎn shí chéng yáng zhǎng  becoming an active [outward] palm upon the push reaching its limit,

掌後部向前微挺。zhǎng hòu bù xiàng qián wēi tǐng  the back [center] of the palm slightly urging forward.

眼看正東。yǎn kàn zhèng dōng  Your eyes are looking directly to the east.

17. BRUSH KNEE IN A CROSSED STANCE (part 5)

左脚前進一步,zuǒ jiǎo qián jìn yī bù  Your left foot takes a step forward,

仍成弓步。réng chéng gōng bù  again making a bow stance,

左手降下繞左膝前落於其側,成垂直線 zuǒ shǒu jiàng xià rào zuǒ xī qián luò yú qí cè chéng chuí zhí xiàn  while your left hand lowers, passing in front of your left knee to hang straight down beside it,

指尖翹起。zhǐ jiān qiào qǐ  fingertips lifted,

右手提起,向前推出 yòu shǒu tí qǐ  xiàng qián tuī chū  and your right hand lifts and pushes out forward

至終點時成陽掌,zhì zhōng diǎn shí chéng yáng zhǎng becoming an active [outward] palm upon the push reaching its limit,

掌後部向前微挺。zhǎng hòu bù xiàng qián wēi ting the back [center] of the palm slightly urging forward.

眼看正東。yǎn kàn zhèng dōng  Your eyes are looking directly to the east.

2 Replies to “7. brush knee twist step”

  1. Partner exercise: use brush knee style push fingers towards face/chest of partner, partner mirrors your action so that the backs of your hands are together blocking each other. Both bring their free hand over the top of the touching hands, now they block each other and the original hands go down together then separate to return to the top again. Start stationary and slow, build up to fast while walking forward/backwards.

  2. At start of move, bringing elbows down, twist the R forearm and point the fingers L this turns the body to the left, sit back onto the R leg extending the L arm then pushing down while pushing forward with the R arm and changing to Gong bu.
